There is a methodological story behind the festival. Karwa Chauth has an important significance in the hindu culture, specially the married ladies eagerly wait for the day to celebrate the most auspicious day of the year. The ladies fast starts before the sunrise and ends their fasting by seeing the moon. One day before they apply henna(Mehndi) on their hands. The ladies wake up early in the morning before the sunrise, take bath, put on makeup, jewelry and most importantly apply vermilion on their head that’s a significance of their love and compassion. Then they eat food as per their choice and specially faniya, coconut and glass of water. Later the whole day they do fasting till the moon rises.

The ladies perform the rituals and pooja vidhi as followed by the generations. The Karwa Chauth falls on the 4th day of the full moon. Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on 20th October 2024 this year. A month before ladies start the preparation. On this day ladies get ready as a bride and keep the fast for her husband’s well being and long life. Before the sunrise ladies wake up and take a bath. And dress up in bright color attire for the fast.

They eat food before the sunrise i.e is called Sargi, which is given by her mother-inlaw. After the Sargi women are on strict fast without food and water till moonrise. Nowadays even men keep the Karwa Chauth Fast with their wives. Whole day the women wait for the moon to rise and pray for their partners good health, longevity and prosperity. In the evening before the sunset the temple priest performs the prayer with the story behind the Karva Chauth and ladies listen and pray, then offer fruits and dakshana to the priest.  This year it is predicted that Moonrise will be around 8:15 PM.

1. To start the fast women eat the Sargi before the sunrise
2. Women keep the Nirjala Fast till the Moon rise
3. They spend the day praying
4. In the evening the ladies get together at temple before sunset for Karwa Chauth 2024 pooja
5. The women prepare the thali with fruits, diya and sweets
6. Usually the ladies sit in circle and temple priest recite the Karwa Chauth story and along with song
7. Later the ladies offer dakshana to the priest and take blessings.
8. After the moonrise , first woman see the Moon with sieve and offer water and sweet to moon
9. Then she sees her husband through the sieve. The husband offers water and sweets to her wife and breaks her fast.

On the day of Karwa Chauth 20th October 2024, it is expected that the moon will rise around 8:15 PM. After the moon rises, the ladies who keep fast for their husbands perform the ritual to break their fast. Woman looks at the moon with a sieve and offers sweets and water and with the same sieve she sees her husband and touches his feet and takes blessings, now the husband offers his wife a glass of water and food to break her fast. This is a symbol of pure compassion, love and devotion towards their married life.
